We performed this piece live in Seattle on December 13 during our Songs of Istanbul concert. In that moment, the hall grew still — as if everyone recognized something familiar in the music.
Written by Tatyos Efendi, this Beyâtî makam composition speaks of a pain that has no cure — not dramatic, not loud, but deeply human.
“I am wounded… and I can find no remedy.”
This performance is part of Songs of Istanbul, a concert series exploring the emotional and multicultural musical heritage of Istanbul — where Turkish, Armenian, Greek, and Ottoman traditions meet in shared memory.
