On the Occasion of the 70th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women
CSW70 takes place at a time of growing global polarization, armed conflicts, democratic backsliding, and social fragmentation. In this context, women continue to play critical yet often underrecognized roles in peace-building, dialogue, conflict prevention, and social cohesion—across civil society, faith-based initiatives, and community-level engagement.
Despite their proven contributions, women peacemakers frequently face structural barriers to leadership, limited access to decision-making spaces, and insufficient institutional recognition. Addressing these gaps is essential not only for advancing gender equality but also for achieving sustainable and inclusive peace.
The purpose of this panel is to highlight and strengthen the role of women as peace-builders and agents of social cohesion. The event aims to:
-
Examine how women contribute to peace-building, dialogue, and conflict prevention in divided and fragile contexts
- Explore practical empowerment strategies that enable women to move from informal engagement to recognized leadership roles
-
Share experiences from civil society and faith-based initiatives that promote inclusive peace and social cohesion
•
Foster dialogue
Speakers:
- Kristel Vaino, Estonia
- Miroslava Bobakova, Slovakia
- Marta Lempart, Poland
- Persa Koumoutsi, Greece
- Dimana Sotirova, Hungary
