Journalists and Writers Foundation welcomed its international delegations of civil society partners, journalists, human rights defenders, academics, interfaith leaders, and young professionals, along with UN Diplomats and Members of Parliament from 27 countries, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly at Penthouse45, New York. Convened on the first day of the UNGA81 High-Level Week, the reception served as a networking event, as fostering Sustainable Development Goal 17: Global Partnerships remains at the core of the JWF 3-Day of Actions, which includes the SDGs Roundtable Discussion and the annual flagship event of SDGs Conference 2026: In the Margins of the UNGA81.

As international guests enjoyed an open buffet and live music, JWF President Dr. Mehmet Kilic delivered his welcome remarks and emphasized the theme of UNGA81: Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All. Shanelle Franklin, Award-Winning Author and Broadcaster from South Australia, joined Dr. Kilic on the podium as she emphasized the importance of cultural diplomacy and candid human connection to resolve the most pressing challenges of our day.

Ramya Ramana, Former Youth Poet Laureate of NYC, delivered the poem that she penned exclusively for the JWF UNGA81 Reception entitled “Hope is an Architect”: “Where a world of peace is possible. When we listen, then respond in action to what we hear. A world of peace is possible when there is the ability to hold nuance, and to surrender to structures we have. Built to keep us and only us safe.”

Following this thematic poem special for the UN General Assembly 81st Session, Sam Rechek, Director of Strategic Partnerships, Braver Angels, H.E. Vytautas Juozapaitis, Member of Parliament, Seimas of the Lithuanian Republic, Dainius Radzevičius, Inspector of Journalist Ethics, Office of the Inspector of Journalist Ethics of Lithuania, Pauline Cornwell, Co-Chair of the Pearl of the Islands Foundation Advisory Board, Dr. Joan Rivitz, Civil Rights Commissioner, NJ Commission on Civil Rights also delivered their brief reflections addressing this global community of changemakers and human rights trailblazers.
